POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for new electrical construction of modular buildings used to mine, as well as wellfield infrastructure (power distribution). Construction of PLC/automation panel builds, MCC installation, instrumentation and communications wiring. Working with contractors during programming and as well as general installation of mechanical equipment at the Ross ISR site. Under general supervision this includes designing, installing, constructing, modifying, repairing of electrical equipment and systems. A strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Plan the layout of electrical systems including PLC/DCS systems and instrumentation.
- Install and inspect electrical systems for compliance with applicable codes and OSHA requirements.
- Terminate down hole pumps and motors systems, process pumps, automated valves, header houses and other electrical applications, including MCC’s, instrumentation, low voltage etc.
- Build and construct PLC panels and electrical system with low voltage to 480-volt systems. Single and Three phase systems.
- Replace line fuses up to 14,400 volts.
- Diagnose malfunctions in electrical systems using test equipment and hand tools and repair the problems.
- Program PLC’s, VFD’s, MCC’s and other automated equipment utilized in the day-to-day operations at Strata Energy’s Ross site.
- Trouble shoot and program instruments and hardware in the operations system.
- Test electrical systems to ensure their availability.
- Install, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment for compliance with applicable codes and OSHA requirements.
- Operate a pickup type of vehicle on company premises.
- Spec components, place material orders, and maintain a critical parts inventory
- Demonstrate strong commitment to safety.
- Comply with Wyoming electrical codes.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for this position an individual must be knowledgeable and have experience in residential, commercial, industrial electrical systems, PLC/DCS systems and instrumentation. The individual must meet the qualifications of a Journeyman Electrician, or higher.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
The requirements include:
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by the company.
- Ability to work productively with minimal supervision and communicate effectively with supervisor, operations, and co-workers.
- Must be able to read and write and perform basic math including multiplication and division.
- GE IFIX, Proficiency historian, Rockwell Automation, Allen Bradley, C-more HMI’s, Siemens SIMOCODE, Cisco networking, XL Reporter. Programming VFD’s, and instruments.
- Install and inspect electrical systems for compliance with applicable codes and OSHA requirements.
- Wire wellfield module buildings, production wells, process pumps and automated valves and other electrical applications, including MCC’s, instrumentation, low voltage etc.
- Diagnose malfunctions in electrical systems using test equipment and hand tools and repair the problem.
- Test electrical systems to ensure their availability.
- Diagnose malfunctions in mobile equipment, and mechanical equipment and repair the problem.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A high school diploma.
- Experience in residential, commercial, industrial electrical systems, PLC/DCS systems and instrumentation.
- The individual must meet the qualifications of a licensed Journeyman Electrician, or greater.
- Experience using a computer based industrial plant operations system and calibrating and testing equipment (such as Siemens, Rockwell and Allen-Bradley equipment/systems).
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of mobile equipment, piping systems and mechanical equipment used at uranium ISR facilities, surface mining operations, water treatment plants, O&G operations or other industrial facilities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, company procedures, and memos.
- Ability to write and maintain records.
- Ability to deal with vendors in the specification and ordering of required supplies.
MATHEMATICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to use basic computer word processing and spreadsheet programs (i.e. Word, Excel,).
- Ability to effectively use a computer based industrial plant operations system.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- A valid class “C” driver’s license is required.
- Licensed Journeyman Electrician.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards typically associated with a uranium ISR plant facility which includes the presence of low levels of radioactive materials and radiation, low to moderate noises levels, moving equipment, slips on wet surfaces, and trips related to uneven ground and facility equipment. The employee is also exposed to electrical hazards. The work environment is typically outdoors. Therefore, the employee may routinely be exposed to inclement weather including cold, hot, snow, rain, mud etc.
