Laboratory Technician

DEPARTMENT:  Operations and Projects
REPORTS TO:  Laboratory Supervisor
FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt

Full Time, Hourly, Day Shift

Position Description:

Manage laboratory systems, including analyzing samples for environmental programs as well as production and process testing for an ISR uranium mining operation.

Responsibilities:

• Performance of manual and automated inorganic procedures and development of associated SOPs
• Familiarity with ICPOES instrumentation and operation
• Understanding and use of computer systems to include data collection and management
• Adhering to GLP principles with respect to analytical and safety programs
• Analytical method development and implementation
• Laboratory and analytical equipment maintenance and supply procurement
• Establishing and maintaining a defensible Quality Assurance Program
• Data organization and reporting
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science, or another related scientific field preferred.
• Experience with manual and automated inorganic analytical methods is preferred.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to interpret data, troubleshoot problems, and make sound decisions.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment, identify malfunctions, and implement corrective actions.
• Proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational skills with the capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to work independently and collaboratively with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments.
• Working knowledge of basic mathematics, including fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages, and standard calculations.
• Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy when following technical instructions, operating procedures, and company policies.
• Experience coordinating with vendors regarding laboratory supplies and equipment is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and must be insurable under the Company’s vehicle insurance policy.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.   The employee may occasionally lift 25-50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and ability to distinguish colors accurately (color recognition required). The employee may be required to be medically approved to wear a full-face negative pressure air purifying respirator

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards typically associated with a uranium ISR plant facility which includes the presence of low levels of radioactive materials and radiation, low to moderate noises levels, moving equipment, slips on wet surfaces, and trips related to uneven ground and facility equipment.  The work environment is typically indoors but outdoor work is required on occasion to complete inspections and other duties. Therefore, on occasion the employee can be exposed to inclement weather including cold, hot, snow, rain, mud, etc.
