Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting the Manager of Health, Safety, and Environment with the implementation of the Industrial Safety, Radiation Safety and Environmental Monitoring Programs at the Ross ISR Project. This includes assessing and mitigating workplace hazards, compliance monitoring of facility radiological conditions and maintaining environmental monitoring sites and collecting environmental monitoring data.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. A two-year technical degree in industrial safety, environmental or physical science, or a similar health related field is preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of two years of work experience in sampling and analytical laboratory procedures, health physics, industrial hygiene, industrial safety measures and/or environmental monitoring that may be applied in a Uranium Recovery (UR) facility, is required. Preference will be given for Health Physics (Radiation Safety) training and/or experience.
  • To qualify for this position an individual must be knowledgeable of the OSHA safety and health standards for construction (OSHA 1926) and general industry (OSHA 1910). The individual should also be knowledgeable of environmental monitoring methods. Previous experience with industrial safety and/ or environmental monitoring at a uranium recovery facility, industrial facility, mining, resource recovery, or similar operation is necessary

  • Ability to read and comprehend technical instructions, regulatory guidance documents, company procedures, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple and technical correspondence, including: training documents, operating procedures, and weekly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information and training in one-on-one and group situations to other employees of the organization as well as regulatory agencies and the public.
  • Ability to deal with vendors in the specification and ordering of required supplies and technical services.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and compute rate, ratio, and percent. Basic understanding of the metric system and of unit conversions.
  • Ability to use basic computer word processing, spreadsheet and database programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Access) for recording compliance information and documentation of monitoring data.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to understand and analyze technical data related to measurements derived from instrumentation and laboratory data used by the Radiation Protection Program.
  • A valid drivers license with only minor infractions in the last three years is required.
  • The employee must be knowledgeable about and follow the company’s industrial safety and radiation safety policies and procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally lift 25-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to be medically approved to wear a fullface negative pressure air purifying respirator.
